Applications for the German government’s “AFRIKA KOMMT!” scholarship program are now being accepted. You have until March 24, 2024 to apply.

“AFRIKA KOMMT!” (which means “AFRICA IS COMING!” in German) is an initiative of the German government aimed at promoting sustainable economic development and investment in Africa. It offers young African professionals training and work experience in leading German companies. The program includes one-year training in Germany, followed by a six-month internship in a participating German company.

The “AFRIKA KOMMT” program briefly

Program Structure

The German government’s “AFRIKA KOMMT!” program includes:

  • An intensive German language course.
  • Three Management trainings (Focus: Intercultural Skills, Leadership, Project and Change Management, Conflict Management).
  • An eight-month internship in the partner company.
  • A one-week study tour.
  • Weekend seminars.
  • Networking events.
  • A farewell ceremony with the Federal Foreign Office.

Eligibility

The “AFRIKA KOMMT!” program is open to young professionals from African countries under the age of 35, holding a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant field such as engineering, economics, or business administration, and having at least two years of professional experience.

Proficiency in the German language is not required. However, fluency in English is necessary to participate in AFRIKA KOMMT!.

Benefits and Funding

The “AFRIKA KOMMT!” program is fully funded by participating German companies. As a scholarship holder, all expenses related to your participation in the program will be covered (visa, flights, accommodation, monthly allowance, insurance, trainings, language courses).

In terms of allowance, you will receive €750 (months 1-3 and month 12), then a monthly salary during your internship in the companies of approximately €1,500.

At the end of the program, a one-time relocation fee of €1,000 will be paid to you. Additionally, housing will be provided to you during all stages of the program in Germany including internet, electricity, water, and other charges.

At the end of the program, you will receive two certificates: an official certificate with a detailed description of the content and components of the training, and a certificate from the Academy for International Cooperation of GIZ GmbH.

How to apply for “AFRIKA KOMMT”?

To apply for the “AFRIKA KOMMT!” scholarship program, submit your application online at this link: https://application.afrika-kommt.de/.

During your application, you will be asked to upload a brief presentation about your motivation, an idea for a change initiative that you would like to implement in your country, a photo, and your certificates. Four questions about your change idea will be asked in the application form.

Submit your application before March 24, 2024. You will receive a response within approximately 8 to 12 weeks after the official end of the application period.

Partner companies may contact you for a brief phone interview. If your application successfully passes the pre-selection stage, you will receive an invitation to a two-day assessment center.
