1. The Canadian Francophonie Scholarship Program (CFSP)

The Canadian Francophonie Scholarship Program (CFSP) is a scholarship program designed to build institutional capacities by training employed nationals from developing countries of La Francophonie.

Candidates are selected by using a quota system for each recipient country. The quota approach allows recipient countries to define their own priorities for training, as well as the level of training required for the development of their institutions.

The program is entirely funded by the Government of Canada.

2. Study in Canada Scholarships Program

The Study in Canada Scholarships program provides students from post-secondary institutions located in the new eligible countries/territories with short-term exchange opportunities for study or research in Canadian post-secondary institutions at the college, undergraduate and graduate levels.

At least 50 scholarships are awarded, with the number increasing each year.

3. Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships

The Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships program provides funding to the very best postdoctoral applicants, both nationally and internationally, who will positively contribute to the Canada economic, social, and research-based growth.

The objective of the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships program is to: attract and retain top-tier postdoctoral talent, both nationally and internationally develop their leadership potential position them for success as research leaders of tomorrow

The duration of the program is 2 years and the value of the scholarship is $70,000 CAD per year (taxable).

4. CIFAR Global Scholars

CIFAR is a charitable organization supported by the governments of Canada, Alberta and Quebec, as well as foundations, individuals, corporations and Canadian and international partner organizations.

Applications for the CIFAR Global Scholars program are open to all national and international students and are accepted once annually. The 2022-2024 cohort will begin accepting applications in September 2021.

CIFAR global scholars receive $100,000 CAD support over two years.

5. CIHR Fellowship

Fellowships provide support for highly qualified applicants in all areas of health research at the post-PhD degree or post-health professional degree stages to add to their experience by engaging in health research either in Canada or abroad.

The maximum amount awarded for a single award is up to $60,000 per annum for up to 5 years. The value and duration of each award is determined by the degree(s) held, licensure (where applicable), location of tenure and experience of the applicant.

6. Mitacs Elevate

Mitacs Elevate is a postdoctoral fellowship with an exclusive professional development curriculum component. Fellows address complex challenges. Fellows progress through the program in a cohort, giving them cross-disciplinary networking and peer-learning opportunities they might not have otherwise in their careers.

Over the two-year fellowship, fellows divide their time between their partner organization’s project and academic institution-based research with their academic supervisor. Elevate fellows receive $55,000 minimum annual stipend/salary.

7. Research Associate Program

The Research Associate Program by the National Research Council Canada provides to promising international and national scientists and engineers with the opportunity to work in a challenging research environment during the early stages of their career.

You are eligible for the Research Associate Program if you possess a Ph.D in natural science or engineering or a Master’s degree in an engineering field earned within the last five years.

8. Sauvé Scholars Program

The Jeanne Sauvé Public Leadership Program is an in-house, intercultural and international program based at Sauvé House in Montreal.

The Foundation’s goal is to develop young leaders capable of rising to meet those challenges by communicating and collaborating across cultures, as well as thinking across traditional disciplines.

The Jeanne Sauvé Fellows are provided with a living stipend during the Residential Phase of the program (10 months). They are also given accommodation in the Sauvé House at no cost.

9. Trudeau Scholarships

A three-year leadership program designed to train engaged Leaders, equipping outstanding doctoral candidates with the skills to translate their ideas into action, for the betterment of their communities, Canada, and the world.

Up to 16 doctoral national and international scholars are selected each year and receive generous funding for their studies in addition to leadership training in the context of Brave Spaces.

Trudeau doctoral scholars receive up to $60,000 per year for three years to cover tuition, living expense, networking, travel allowance and activities related to the learning of languages.

10. Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships

Named after Major-General Georges P. Vanier, the first francophone Governor General of Canada, the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship (Vanier CGS) program helps Canadian institutions attract highly qualified doctoral students. 11. Visiting Fellowships in Canadian Government Laboratories Program

The Visiting Fellowships in Canadian Government Laboratories Program is administered by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) on behalf of Canadian government laboratories and research institutions.

The Visiting Fellowships in Canadian Government Laboratories (VF) Program provides promising emerging scientists and engineers with the opportunity to work with research groups or leaders in Canadian government laboratories and research institutions.

The scholarship value is $53,077 per year (one year, renewable for up to two more years).

12. Organization of American States Academic Scholarships Programs

The Organization of American States (OAS) coordinates a multilateral scholarship program on behalf of all participating OAS member states. The OAS awards allow graduate students from an OAS member state to apply for scholarships to study in another OAS member state.

Canada encourages eligible students to apply to these scholarships to experience Canada’s academic expertise.

Students wishing to participate should send their application directly to the National Liaison Agency (ONE) designated in their country for the OAS program.

13. Canada-U.S. Fulbright Scholarship

The Canada-U.S. Fulbright Program operates on the principle of reciprocal exchange and provides the opportunity for outstanding American scholars to lecture and/or conduct research in Canada.

Award recipients include prominent and promising scholars, as well as experienced professionals.

14. Canada-ASEAN Scholarships

The Canada-ASEAN Scholarships program provides students, from member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), with short-term exchange opportunities for study or research in Canadian post-secondary institutions at the college, undergraduate and graduate levels.

There is two sub-programs for this scholarship : Canada-ASEAN Scholarships for mid-career professionals and Canada-ASEAN Scholarships for students.

15. Canada-CARICOM Program

The Canada-CARICOM Program provides CARICOM member and associate member states with short-term exchange opportunities for professional development, graduate study or research at Canadian post-secondary institutions.

There is two sub-programs for this scholarship : Canada-CARICOM Faculty Leadership Program and Canada-CARICOM Skills Training for the Green Economy Scholarships Program

16. Canada-China Scholars’ Exchange Program

Canada offers awards to full-time, permanent teaching or research staff, master’s or doctoral graduates as well as non-academics in China holding senior professional posts (e.g., judges, broadcasters, economists) so that upon their return home they can make a distinctive contribution to life in China and to mutual understanding between Canada and China.

17. Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program

The Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program (ELAP) scholarships provide students from post-secondary institutions located in Latin America and the Caribbean with short-term exchange opportunities for study or research in Canadian post-secondary institutions, at the college, undergraduate and graduate levels.

18. ResearchNet CIHR
