Applications for the international selection competition at ENS Paris (École Normale Supérieure) for the academic year 2024-2025 are now open. The international selection competition at ENS is an admission competition open to foreign students holding a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent degree from a foreign university. Winners of the competition receive a monthly scholarship of 1,000 euros for three years and have access to accommodation. The deadline to apply is December 11, 2023 (23:59).

The number of scholarships offered by ENS is 10 positions for scientific disciplines and another 10 positions for literary disciplines. Upon completion of their studies, candidates receive the diploma of the École normale supérieure and a master’s degree in their specialized field.

Admission to ENS Paris is extremely competitive. Candidates must undergo a rigorous competition that assesses their academic skills, creativity, and analytical thinking ability. The international selection competition at ENS takes place in two stages: a selection based on a dossier and written and oral exams (Humanities) or oral exams only (Sciences).

The École normale supérieure Paris (ENS) is a prestigious institution in France, renowned for its academic excellence and quality research. Founded in 1794 during the French Revolution, ENS’s mission is to train the intellectual and scientific elites of the country. ENS alumni include fourteen Nobel Prize winners, ten Fields medalists, a president of the Republic, and several ministers and prime ministers.

Eligibility Criteria

To participate in the ENS international selection competition, you must:

  • Be under 26 years old.
  • Apply to the ENS international selection for the first time.
  • Not have stayed in France for more than 10 months in the year of the application and the preceding year.
  • Have completed your undergraduate studies abroad.

Eligible Fields

  • Sciences: Biology, Chemistry, Geosciences, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Cognitive Sciences.
  • Humanities: Anthropology, Archaeology, Classical Studies (Greek, Latin), Film Studies, Theater Studies, Art History, Musicology, Cognitive Sciences, Economics, Political Science, Geography, History, History and Philosophy of Law, History and Philosophy of Sciences, Linguistics (language sciences), Literature, Philosophy, Sociology.

Application Procedure

The application for the ENS international selection competition will be done online at this address: https://www1.ens.fr/recrutement-si/

You will be required to upload the following documents:

  • Detailed application form (editable form, to be downloaded and saved before filling it out) – download HERE.
  • Passport-1st page only or national identity card.
  • High school diploma.
  • University transcripts.
  • Motivation letter, written in French. Candidates in Economics, Linguistics, or Cognitive Studies will submit their motivation letter in both French and English.
  • A research project of a maximum of 3 pages.
  • Curriculum vitae.

All requested documents are to be submitted, compiled into a single PDF, on the platform whose link will be sent to you once the initial application form is filled out HERE. This single PDF must be named “Lastname-Firstname.pdf”.

International Selection Competition Humanities 2024:

  • Applications: October 17 to December 11, 2023 (23:59).
  • Admissibility results: January 24, 2024.
  • Written exams: between February 26 and March 1, 2024.
  • Oral exams: between March 4 and March 8, 2024.
  • Admission results: March 13, 2024.

International Selection Competition Sciences 2024:

  • Applications: October 17 to December 11, 2023 (23:59).
  • Admissibility results: January 25, 2024.
  • Oral exams: between February 26 and March 7, 2024.
  • Admission results: March 12, 2024.
