Applications for the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Scholarships in Materials Science (MaMaSELF) are now open for the academic year 2024/2026. Admitted students can choose their university from six possibilities in France, Germany, Italy, or Poland. The deadline to apply is January 31, 2024.

Erasmus Mundus are scholarship programs funded by the European Union (EU). They aim to promote academic mobility and cooperation between higher education institutions worldwide. Erasmus Mundus programs offer students the opportunity to take courses at different universities and receive a joint or multiple degree at the end of their studies.

University Consortium

The Master MaMaSELF brings together six European universities in the fields of materials science, engineering physics, and chemistry. The candidate will have the flexibility to choose the university where they want to pursue their first and second year from the following options:

  • University of Rennes 1, France,
  • University of Montpellier, France,
  • Technical University of Munich (TUM), Germany,
  • Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich (LMU), Germany,
  • University of Turin, Italy,
  • Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Poland.

MaMaSELF Program Overview

The MaMaSELF (MAster in MAterials Science powEred by Large-Scale Facilities) Master’s program spans 4 semesters over a period of 2 years. The language of instruction and examinations is English.

One Student will spend one year at one institution, then the second year at another institution. It is not possible to remain at the same location for both years. The second year will be divided into two semesters: the first at the university and the second devoted to the Master’s thesis project, which can be carried out at another university or at large-scale facilities.

Amount of Erasmus Mundus MaMaSELF Scholarship

The Erasmus Mundus scholarship amounts to €33,600 for the duration of two years. It will be awarded by the consortium among eligible candidates based on their ranking in the selection. This amount adequately covers expenses related to travel, daily living, and tuition for the entirety of the student’s education.

Admission Requirements

The MaMaSELF Master’s program accepts applications from both European and non-European students. However, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in materials science or related disciplines such as chemistry, physics, or geological sciences. Applicants from other disciplines, such as civil engineering, medicine, pharmacy, architecture, accounting, law, etc., can apply provided they demonstrate a minimum background in chemistry or physics at the Bachelor’s level.
  • Proficiency in the English language, as all lectures in the MaMaSELF program are conducted in English.
