Estonian Scholarship Program for Foreign Students
Applications for the Estonian Government Scholarship are now accepted until September first, 2022.
The Estonian scholarship program is implemented and organized by the Estonian Minister of Education and Research. The scholarship can be applied for by foreign students who wish to study at an Estonian higher education institution at the undergraduate’s, master’s and doctoral level. The Estonian scholarship program supports all fields of studies. The Estonian scholarship can be for both exchange studies and degree studies.
In terms of education, Estonia has over 150 unique and high quality degree programs taught fully in English. Its diplomas are internationally accepted. English language is widely spoken. In Estonia, you have the possibility to stay in the country for 9 months to look for a job after graduation.
Estonia is considered as an e-society, with electronic ID-cards, e-government, e-health, e-school, e-parking etc. You would be living in a unique European country. In Estonia, it takes you only about 20 minutes to found your own company online and 99% of banking is done online. It is ranked 10th worldwide in air quality. Estonia is also the only Eurozone nation to run a budget surplus. It is one of the safest countries in the world.
ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible for the Estonian scholarship, you must be :
- Citizen of an eligible country (listed below).
- Have applied and received an admission letter of an Estonian institution.
The following countries are eligible for this scholarship program :
Group A : People’s Republic of China, Greece, Poland, Czech Republic, Turkey, Latvia, Lithuania, France, Germany.
Group B : United States of America, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Egypt, Philippines, Georgia, Spain, Croatia, India, Indonesia, Italy, Canada, Kazakhstan, Republic of Korea, Cyprus, Israel, Mexico, Moldova, Portugal, Slovenia, Finland, Sri Lanka, Great Britain, Thailand, Tunisia, Ukraine, Hungary, Russia, Belarus.
Students from Group A countries listed in Annex 1 will be awarded 2 additional points in the assessment, and students from Group B countries will be awarded 1 additional point.
AMOUNT OF THE ESTONIAN SCHOLARSHIP
The Estonian scholarship rates are established as follows:
- Doctoral studies : 660 euros per month.
- Master’s studies : 350 euros per month.
- Bachelor’s studies : 350 euros per month.
- Exchange program : The scholarship is paid in an amount proportional to the number of days studied. ((Your study degree’s scholarship rate / 30) * number of exchange days).
The Estonian scholarship for all levels of study are intended to cover the accommodation and transport costs of a foreign student.
DURATION OF THE SCHOLARSHIP
DEGREE STUDIES:
Degree student scholarship is paid for 12 months of the academic year, except for the last nominal academic year, when the scholarship is paid for 10 months. The Estonian scholarship is awarded for a maximum of 12 months at a time.
EXCHANGE STUDIES:
The exchange student is paid a scholarship during the study period in Estonia according to the dates approved by the host higher education institution. The scholarship can be applied for up to ten months. The scholarship is paid for exchange studies lasting at least 30 days.

HOW TO APPLY FOR THE ESTONIAN SCHOLARSHIP?
Application for the Estonian scholarship must be submitted in the electronic application environment : https://taotlused.edu.ee/. The application must be submitted in English.
Applications for the Estonian scholarship are accepted once a year. The deadline for submitting the application is
September 1. The opportunity to submit an application opens one month before the deadline.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
During your application for the Estonian scholarship, you will be asked to upload the following documents:
- Application form and motivation letter through the online application system.
- A copy of passport or ID card.
- A copy of the confirmation letter of the higher education institution regarding admission.
The Board has the right to request additional documents from the applicant and make inquiries to the higher education institution.
The application period for 2022 is August 01 – September 01. Electronic submission window closes automatically at 23:59 EET on September 01.
