Google offers a conference and travel scholarship for students passionate about scientific research. Scholarships are awarded based on the quality of the scientific paper and the conference itself. You can apply for this grant now.

The Google Conference Scholarship program aims to assist students in attending leading conferences in technology and business-related fields. It covers conference participation fees, travel expenses, and accommodation costs. The program is open to North America, Africa, and APAC students at all study levels: undergraduate, master’s, PhD, and postdoctoral.

Amount of the Google Conference Scholarship

The Google Conference Scholarship value ranges from 1000 to 3000 USD towards travel, registration, transportation, and accommodation costs. The final grant amount will be determined by the conference.

Eligibility

The eligibility criteria for the Google Conference Scholarship varies by region :

North America region eligibility criteria

While all qualified industry professionals and students can apply, the North American program is designed to expose career opportunities to those who identify as historically excluded in tech. This includes those who identify as Women, Black/African American/Caribbean/WestIndies, Hispanic/Latinx, individuals with disabilities, veterans, and Native American/First Nations.

To apply for the North America Google Conference Scholarship, you must fulfill the following eligibility requirements:

  • Be at least eighteen (18) years of age at the time of application.
  • Be a University Student or an industry professional.
  • Be a citizen, permanent resident of, or currently studying in the US, Canada, or Mexico.
  • Be able to attend the conference in its entirety.

Current Google employees, contractors, interns, officers or directors are not eligible to apply for this scholarship.

APAC region eligibility criteria

To be eligible for a travel grant to attend an international Computer Science research conference, applicants must:

  1. Be a full-time student who is enrolled with a recognized university in an APAC country
  2. Have a paper accepted for full publication at a top-tier computer science conference. Visit research.google.com for a list of Google’s priority areas. Workshop papers will not be approved for travel grants.
  3. The paper must be accepted for full publication and preferably full oral presentation. As an indicator, thse conferences are approved for a travel scholarship : CVPR, NeurIPS, ICML, CHI, AAAI, STOC, PLDI, COLT, KDD, ICCV, EMNLP, WWW, ACL and FSE.
  4. The paper is also accepted for presentation (oral or poster) in the main conference program.
  5. Be the primary author of the accepted paper.
  6. Remain enrolled full-time students when receiving travel grants.

Africa region eligibility criteria

To be eligible for the Google Conference Scholarship to attend an international Computer Science conference, applicants must:

  • Be a full-time student enrolled with a recognized university in Africa.
  • Have a paper accepted at a top-tier computer science conference. Google prefers to support conferences in research areas where it has a strong interest. Please visit research.google.com for a list of areas.
  • Be the sole or joint first author of the accepted paper.

Citizens and residents of the following African countries are eligible: South Africa, Algeria, Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Comoros, Republic of the Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Libya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Morocco, Mauritius, Mauritania, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Uganda, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, São Tomé and Príncipe, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Chad, Togo, Tunisia, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

Individuals who are residents of embargoed countries, ordinarily resident in embargoed countries, or otherwise prohibited by applicable export controls and sanctions programs may not apply for this scholarship.

Deadlines for the Google Conference Scholarship

The deadline for the Google Conference Scholarships varies by region :

APAC region : Always open

Google reviews applications on a rolling basis, all year round. Therefore, eligible applicants will get a reply around four weeks of applying. Once approved for a travel grant, the funds will be paid to the applicant’s university and the student may claim expenses using regular university procedures.

North America region:  Depends on the chosen conference

The Google Conference Scholarship for North America only accepts applications for a limited number of conferences. Please check the Google Conference Scholarship website for a list of eligible conferences and their deadlines.

North Africa region : Accepted on a rolling basis

The Google Conference Scholarship program has not specified a deadline for application for the Africa region. This means that applications are accepted on a rolling basis, and there is no need to rush to apply.

How to apply for the Google Conference Scholarship?

To apply for the Google Conference and Travel Scholarship, simply fill out the following form :

The program also accepts applications for virtual conferences.

Google will notify successful candidates via email at least (1) month prior to the conference date. The same email will contain steps to finalize conference registration. Also, pre-purchased registration fees can be reimbursed to the selected scholars.
