The Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS), established in 2009 by the Research Grants Council (RGC), is open to all students, regardless of their country of origin, work experience, or ethnic background. These scholarships have welcomed over 3,000 students from approximately 100 countries to Hong Kong. The program covers a wide range of fields, including humanities, business and social studies, engineering, biology, medicine, and physical sciences.
In its previous version, the program awarded 300 fellowships.

Advantages of the Hong Kong PhD Fellowships
The Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Program provides awardees with an annual stipend of HK$331,200 (approximately $42,460 USD) along with a conference and research-related travel allowance of HK$13,800 (approximately $1,760 USD) per year for a period of up to three years. However, if you require more than three years to complete your Ph.D., please be aware that partner universities may offer you additional support.
For the academic year 2024/2025, the program plans to award 300 PhD fellowships.
Who is eligible for this fellowship?
Candidates, regardless of their country of origin, prior work experience, or ethnic background, are eligible to apply for a full-time PhD at one of the eight universities in Hong Kong.
