Scholarships in Belgium: The complete List [Update July 2021]

If you want to go abroad to do, or complete, your studies in Belgium, here is our selection of scholarships in Belgium for 2022-2023.

1. VLIR-UOS scholarship programs

The VLIR-UOS program offers 31 scholarships each year to international students to study at Flemish universities. It is considered to be one of the pioneer programs in Belgium. The VLIR-UOS program offers full scholarships including accommodation, tuition, monthly stipend, and travel fare.

2. ARES scholarships

The ARES scholarships represent the best opportunity to pursue a Master degree in Belgium. The Belgian government has launched 200 scholarships this year (2021). Applicants are eligible to apply in any master’s field taught in Belgium.

The duration of this scholarship is one year and 4 to 6 months for the development of practical training. All tuition fees, medical insurance, visa, monthly allowance are covered by the ARES scholarships.

3. Master Mind scholarships

The Flemish Ministry of Education and Training awards scholarships for master’s programs in Flanders and Brussels to outstanding students from all over the world. A Master Mind scholarship includes a grant of € 8,200 plus a tuition waiver per academic year.

4. Science @ Leuven scholarships

This program offers a full scholarships to motivated and talented international students interested in participating in an international master’s program at the Faculty of Science at KU Leuven.

5. Ghent University scholarships

Ghent University offers complementary scholarships to applicants from all countries on the OESO-DAC list who wish to obtain a master’s degree at the University of Ghent.

6. Hasselt University scholarships

Hasselt University offers several funding opportunities for international students (depending on their country of origin, study program, etc.). More information on the following scholarships can be found below: PCI program statistics , ICP Transport Sciences Program , ENABEL scholarships.

Only students who are not currently enrolled in a Flemish higher education institution are eligible.

7. Thomas More University Scholarships

Thomas More University offers a non-monetary scholarship to international students. You can get a reduction or exemption on tuition fees through the merit scholarship.

8. Vrije Universiteit Brussel

The Vrije Universiteit Brussels (VUB) participates in several scholarship programs that offer scholarships at different levels of study, from Bachelor to Academic Staff, in various regions, for long and short stays.

9. VUB Scholarships for Masters in Photonic Engineering Sciences

Each year, the Vrije Universiteit Brussels grants several full scholarships of 10,000, – EUR / academic year for the Master of Science in Photonics Engineering program based on excellence. Any international student applying to VUB is eligible for these scholarships, no separate procedure needs to be followed.

10. VUB B-PHOT Excellence Scholarships

B-PHOT , the Brussels Photonics Research group of the VUB, also offers scholarships to excellent students on a competitive basis. All students who register for the Masters in Photonic Engineering at VUB are eligible to receive a B-PHOT Excellence Scholarship of 5,000, – EUR / academic year by the research group without a separate application procedure.

11. Erasmus Mundus scholarships in Belgium

Erasmus + is the EU program to support education, training, youth and sport in Europe. Its budget is estimated at 26.2 billion euros.
