Applications for the Swedish Government SI Scholarship Program, also known as the SI Scholarship for Global Professionals, are open for the 2026–2027 academic year. Applications may be submitted from February 9 to February 25, 2026. Results are expected to be published in late April 2026.
The Swedish Institute (SI), a public agency responsible for promoting Sweden’s international cooperation, manages this program for professionals from 34 countries. The objective is to support candidates who are likely to contribute to the sustainable development of their home country after completing their studies.
Scholarship amount and coverage
The scholarship is fully funded. It includes:
- full coverage of tuition fees, paid directly to the Swedish university;
- a monthly allowance of 12,000 SEK for living expenses;
- a one-time travel grant of 15,000 SEK (10,000 SEK for certain Eastern European countries);
- membership in the SI Network for Global Professionals (NFGP), offering exchanges and professional development activities;
- lifetime membership in the SI Alumni Network.
Not covered: health insurance, university application fees, expenses for accompanying family members, and any extension or change of the study program.
Eligibility criteria
Several conditions must be met.
- Nationality: the applicant must be a citizen of one of the 34 eligible countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Belarus, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Egypt, Ethiopia, Georgia, Guatemala, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Kenya, Liberia, Malaysia, Mexico, Moldova, Morocco, Nigeria, Peru, Philippines, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Thailand, Uganda, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, or Zambia. Residence in the country at the time of application is not required. Applicants with dual nationality must choose only one nationality when applying.
- Study program: applicants must be admitted to a master’s program taught in English listed on the list of eligible programs, published in mid-November 2025.
- Work experience: a minimum of 3,000 hours of documented professional experience is required before February 2026. For Eastern European countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine), no minimum duration is imposed, but proof of experience is still mandatory.
- Leadership: applicants must demonstrate leadership experience, such as managing a team or participating in civic or community initiatives.
- Ineligibility cases: individuals already enrolled in a Swedish institution, holding a Swedish degree, having resided in Sweden for two years or more, citizens of Sweden or an EU/EEA country, or previous SI scholarship recipients are not eligible. Applicants holding dual nationality outside the eligible list are not admissible. Exceptions apply to Ukrainian citizens under temporary protection and Moldovan citizens holding Romanian nationality.
Application procedure
The process takes place in two separate steps:
1. Application for a master’s program (October 16, 2025 – January 15, 2026)
Applicants must submit their application via UniversityAdmissions.se for up to four programs. An eight-digit application number is assigned after submission; it is required for the scholarship application. Application fees must be paid within the specified deadlines.
2. SI scholarship application (February 9 – February 25, 2026 at 14:59 CET)
The scholarship application is submitted via the Swedish Institute portal. Only one application may be submitted. Required documents include:
- a CV (maximum 3 pages) using the official SI template;
- a form documenting professional experience and leadership, signed by a referee;
- two letters of recommendation in the SI format, one of which must be from an employer;
- a copy of the passport or ID card (page showing photo and nationality);
- a motivation letter in English and, if applicable, a short introduction video.
All documents must be merged into one single PDF file. The use of SI-provided templates is mandatory.
Assessment and timeline
The review phase takes place from late February to late March. Admission results for master’s programs will be published on March 26, 2026. The list of scholarship recipients will be announced on April 23, 2026, and offers will be sent by email between April 24 and April 26. Selected candidates must confirm acceptance by the end of May 2026.
