The University of Lausanne (UNIL) scholarships program is now open for application for the 2024-2025 academic year. These scholarships are designated for students who have graduated from foreign universities and have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement. The deadline to apply is November 1st, 2023.

UNIL is currently ranked among the top 150 universities globally in the Shanghai Ranking 2023. The university accommodates nearly 16,000 students, with approximately one-fourth of its student body originating from international backgrounds. Additionally, almost half of the faculty members at UNIL are international scholars, contributing to the institution’s diverse and multicultural academic environment.

Founded in 1537, UNIL is located in the French-speaking region of Switzerland, at the crossroads of Europe, making it easily accessible to neighboring countries such as France, Germany, Italy, and Austria. UNIL’s campus comprises three primary sites, with the largest, Dorigny, situated in close proximity to Lake Geneva. Benefits

The University of Lausanne UNIL scholarship offers the following advantages:

  1. Financial Support: Recipients will receive CHF 1,600 per month, equivalent to $1,740, for 10 months per academic year, spanning from September 15th to July 15th. This funding helps cover living expenses and academic-related costs.
  2. Course Fee Exemption: Students awarded this scholarship will be exempted from paying course fees, reducing the financial burden associated with their studies.

Eligibility for the University of Lausanne scholarships

Candidates for the University of Lausanne UNIL scholarship must meet the following criteria to be considered :

  • Equivalent Foreign Degree: Hold a foreign university degree recognized as equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from the University of Lausanne (UNIL).
  • Outstanding Academic Performance: Demonstrate a strong academic track record, highlighting exceptional achievements in their previous studies.
  • Language Proficiency:
    • For French-taught programs: Possess a minimum language proficiency level of B2 in French.
    • For English-taught programs: Attain a minimum language proficiency level of C1 in English.
  • Not Currently Enrolled at UNIL: Candidates should not be already enrolled as students at the University of Lausanne at the time of application.

Candidates may apply to the University of Lausanne Master’s Scholarship even if the equivalent Swiss Bachelor’s degree has not yet been obtained at the time of application. However, the degree must, of course, be completed and obtained before the start of the chosen Master’s degree at UNIL.

Eligibility also extends to students who have previously earned a Master’s degree from a foreign university. Such candidates are encouraged to apply for the scholarship.

Applications cannot be submitted for the following Master’s programs:

  1. Master’s degree from the School of Medicine
  2. Master of Science and Practice in Education
  3. Master of Laws from the Universities of Zurich and Lausanne
  4. Master of Laws in Criminal Sciences, majoring in Judiciary
  5. Master’s degree in Didactics of Physical Education and Sport
  6. Master’s degree in Health Sciences

How to Apply to the University of Lausanne Scholarship?

Candidates for the University of Lausanne UNIL Master’s scholarship must complete their online registration and upload all their documents in a PDF file during the registration process. Applications sent via email in PDF format and incomplete applications will not be considered.

The application form must be completed on a computer and duly signed by the applicant.

Your application for the University of Lausanne scholarship also serves as an application for admission to the chosen master’s degree (and therefore as your registration file at UNIL).

The application deadline is November 1, 2023. The postmark will serve as proof.

Required Documents

Below is a list of documents that must be included with your application:

  1. The application form completed and signed.
  2. A copy of passport or ID card
  3. A passport size photo inserted in the application form
  4. A complete curriculum vitae
  5. A cover letter
  6. Two letters of recommendation from the applicant’s current or former faculty or employers in a
    sealed.
  7. A copy of the official certificate of the language of instruction of the master’s degree (TOEFL or IELTS for English and DALF or DELF for French).
  8. A single copy of the undergraduate degree. An authenticated/legalized translation of diplomas that are not in French, German, English or Italian is required.
  9. For degrees issued by a State that has ratified the Lisbon Convention, a plain copy of the academic title(s) obtained and all transcripts obtained.
  10. For degrees issued by a state that has not ratified the Lisbon Convention (check here), a certified copy of the academic title(s) obtained, and all transcripts obtained (see how to comply with certified copy requirements).
  11. A copy of the program description for the last semester of the bachelor’s degree, if not yet obtained
  12. A proof of transfer of the administrative fee CHF 200.- (processing fee for any registration file). The amount is paid directly to the account of the University of Lausanne. Please refer to the official website (button “Official website”) for more details.
