The Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation scholarships ARE one of the most prestigious and generous offered to early career figurative artists. It is also one of the most venerable, having been awarded to many brilliant artists for over half a century.
In fact, the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation scholarships are unique in its international character, rewarding students and artists from around the world. The scholarship recipients will study at Laval University, Canada.
Laval University is the oldest French-language university in North America, located in Quebec City, Canada. It is recognized worldwide for the quality of its education and scientific research. Laval University is ranked #361 in Best Global Universities.
To date, the foundation has provided support to some 1900 students and artists from 40 countries. Recipients are now nationally and internationally renowned artists, recognized art teachers and mentors.
Benefits of the Elizabeth Greenshields Scholarships
Recipients receive an initial grant of $15,000 CAD. The second and third grants are $18,000 CAD each. Awards are made directly to the recipients. No other organizations act as intermediaries.
Award Eligibility
Are eligible, only young artists who are pursuing their studies or are in the early stages of their careers, working in the fields of:
- Painting,
- Drawing,
- Sculpture,
- The printing arts (printmaking, engraving, screen printing and lithography) of figurative style.
The applicant must have reached the age of 18, and must not be older than 41, at the time of application for an initial award.
The foundation imposes no restrictions or conditions on applicants’ nationality, citizenship or place of residence. Citizens of all countries are eligible.
Applicant must be in the early stages of their career, whether as a student or emerging artist.
The following areas are NOT eligible for foundation grants: illustration; graphic design; photography; animation drawing; video art; film; digital art; craft; decorative arts; any work that uses a photograph or digital image as the primary subject or is made using software or computer graphics; and any work or activity that primarily joins any of the preceding categories.
Application Procedure
To apply for a scholarship, you must create an account and complete an eligibility questionnaire, on the Foundation’s website, to access the scholarship application.
The Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation does not accept any other forms. Applications must be completed and submitted online.
Applicants are required to provide all information and upload all documents required for the application, which includes the following:
- Personal Information
- Proof of Identity
- Education and training
- Exhibitions
- Awards and honors
- Portfolio
- Proof of acceptance into a program from Laval University
- Description of artistic project
- Artistic approach
- Budget
- Letter of recommendation
Applications submitted in any other manner, whether by mail, email, or otherwise, will not be processed.
There is no deadline for submission of applications. Scholarship applications may be submitted at any time during the year.
