Applications for the Gadjah Mada International Fellowships (GMIF) are open for the academic year 2024/2025. This opportunity is intended for talented students from various nationalities wishing to pursue a two-year Master’s program. The scholarship covers all financial needs of the candidates, including accommodation, travel expenses, a monthly allowance, and much more. Gadjah Mada University (UGM) is a public Indonesian research university located in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. It is ranked 263rd in the prestigious global university ranking, QS World University Rankings 2024. Founded on December 19, 1949, UGM is the oldest and largest higher education institution in Indonesia. It currently has approximately 55,000 students, 1,187 international students, and 2,500 faculty members.

The Gadjah Mada University fellowships offer the following:

  • Tuition fee waiver for the duration of the Master’s program.
  • A monthly allowance of up to one semester for the language program of the Master’s program duration.
  • Student dormitory accommodation.
  • Round-trip economy class airfare.
  • Health insurance.
  • Electronic visa and residence permit during the scholarship program.
  • Research incentive worth $635.


To be eligible for the GMIF, you must:

  • Be at most 30 years old.
  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in fields of Engineering, Sciences, Medicine/Health, Geography, Agriculture, Forestry, Animal Sciences, Economics, Law, Social Sciences and Humanities, or related fields.
  • Have an excellent academic record at the Bachelor’s level (GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or any other document proving the candidate possesses the necessary academic qualifications).
  • Have a good command of English (TOEFL ITP score of at least 500 or IELTS 6.0).
  • Provide a letter of recommendation from the previous University or supervisor.
  • Provide the required supporting documents upon acceptance of the scholarship.

Candidates wishing to apply for Gadjah Mada International Fellowship in Indonesia (GMIF) must register via and fill out the electronic form with their personal information, while uploading the required documents. The deadline to finalize your applications is March 31, 2024.

The required documents are as follows:

  • Color scan of valid passport.
  • Color scan of passport cover.
  • Official passport-sized photograph (guide).
  • Copies of academic transcripts and Bachelor’s degree.
  • Curriculum Vitae.
  • Health certificate issued by the candidate’s physician (download the template here).
  • Proof of English proficiency (TOEFL ITP or IELTS).
  • Personal statement (download the template here).
  • Letter of motivation.
  • Two academic references (letter of recommendation from the previous institution, employer, or supervisor).
