Indonesian Government KNB Scholarship for International Students

The Indonesian Government Scholarship program is now accepting applications. “Kemitraan Negara Berkembang”, also known as KNB scholarship, is a financial aid program for future international students from developing countries who wish to pursue undergraduate, master’s, or PhD studies in Indonesia. The program will accept 222 candidates, including 30 for bachelor’s, 162 for master’s, and 30 for doctoral studies. The application deadline is February 23, 2024.

KNB Scholarship amount and coverage

The Indonesian Government’s KNB scholarships offer recipients a range of benefits, including:

  1. An installation allowance upon arrival in Indonesia.
  2. Coverage of BIPA program (language course) and academic program fees throughout the study period.
  3. Monthly living allowance.
  4. Monthly allowance for research and book acquisition.
  5. Health insurance coverage.
  6. Funding for the publication of scientific articles.
  7. Round-trip economy class airfare.
  8. Coverage of local transportation from the airport to the host university upon arrival and for the return journey.

The duration of the KNB scholarship from the Indonesian government is linked to the duration of the academic program, as follows:

  • Language proficiency course: Maximum 12 months
  • Bachelor’s: Maximum 48 months (8 semesters)
  • Master’s: Maximum 24 months (4 semesters)
  • Doctorate: Maximum 48 months (8 semesters)

Eligibility Criteria for the KNB Scholarship

Bachelor’s

  • The maximum age to apply for the scholarship is 21 years.
  • Must have a high school diploma.
  • Must have a minimum score on the English proficiency test as follows: TOEFL ITP 477, TOEFL IBT 53, IELTS 5.5, TOEIC 510, or equivalent. Foreign nationals from English-speaking countries or participants enrolled in English programs at universities are exempt from submitting English proficiency documents.
  • Must be a citizen of a developing country.

Master’s

  • The maximum age to apply for the scholarship is 35 years.
  • Must have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
  • Must have a minimum score on the English proficiency test as follows: TOEFL ITP 500, TOEFL IBT 61, IELTS 6.0, TOEIC 575, or equivalent. Foreign nationals from English-speaking countries or participants enrolled in English programs at universities are exempt from submitting English proficiency documents.
  • Must be a citizen of a developing country.

PhD

  • The maximum age to apply for the scholarship is 40 years.
  • Must have a master’s degree or equivalent.
  • Must have a minimum score on the English proficiency test as follows: TOEFL ITP 530, TOEFL IBT 71, IELTS 6.0, TOEIC 640, or equivalent. Foreign nationals from English-speaking countries or participants enrolled in English programs at universities are exempt from submitting English proficiency documents.
  • Must be a citizen of a developing country.

List of Universities and Study Programs

The Indonesian government’s KNB scholarship offers the opportunity to study in over 1,475 different Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral programs at 31 participating universities. This document contains a list of all eligible study programs.

During your application, you will be asked to choose a university and three study programs. To help you with the university selection, here is a list of nine Indonesian universities among the top 1000 universities in the world:

Application Procedure

To apply for the KNB scholarship, carefully follow these simple steps:

  1. Start by downloading the KNB scholarship invitation letter.
  2. Submit this letter, along with a copy of your passport, diploma, and transcripts, to the Indonesian embassy in your country to obtain a letter of recommendation. You can do this by email or by sending the documents by mail. Necessary contact information for Indonesian embassies worldwide can be found on this website: https://kemlu.go.id.
  3. The Indonesian embassy will review your application to confirm your eligibility. If approved, the embassy will send you a letter of recommendation, a necessary document for the next steps in your application.
  4. Finally, fill out the application form for the Indonesian government’s KNB scholarship by following this link: https://knb.kemdikbud.go.id/.
You do not need to apply separately to an Indonesian university. The KNB scholarship program manages the placement of selected students.
