The Women for Africa Foundation (Fundación Mujeres por África), sponsored by the Directorate-General for Relations with Africa of the Government of the Canary Islands, is launching the 2026 edition of the Learn Africa Canarias program, an online training initiative for African women who are university students or graduates from across the continent. With more than 450 scholarships, this edition is the most ambitious in the program’s history. The courses, entirely online, will take place between July and November 2026.

The Learn Africa Canarias program aims to strengthen participants’ professional skills, improve their employability, and foster their leadership in strategic sectors for the sustainable development of the African continent. Since its creation in 2020, Learn Africa Canarias has established itself as one of the leading educational cooperation initiatives between the Canary Islands and Africa: to date, 1,211 women from 46 African countries have benefited from quality training through the 1,617 scholarships awarded.

The program is 100% online, allowing women to train without leaving their country. The 2026 edition offers a catalog of 14 courses: 11 specialized programs and 3 Spanish language courses. Each applicant may apply for one scholarship for a specialized course and, in addition, one scholarship for a Spanish course.

Application Procedure for the Learn Africa Canarias Program

Applications to the Learn Africa Canarias scholarship program are submitted exclusively online on the Foundation’s official website (mujeresporafrica.es). Applications sent by mail or email are not evaluated. Before applying, the candidate must:

  1. Check, for each scholarship block, the list of available courses.
  2. Only one scholarship may be requested per block (a specialized course + possibly a Spanish course).
  3. Gather all required documents before starting.
Places are limited and awarded progressively as applications are received; registration for each course closes as soon as the places are filled. It is therefore recommended to apply as early as possible.
For urgent questions not addressed in the frequently asked questions, a contact address is provided: [email protected]. Only selected candidates are contacted personally; it is advisable to check the inbox associated with the application daily.

Required Documents

The documents to be attached may vary depending on the course applied for. In general, the file includes:

  • a proof of identity (passport or identity card);
  • a detailed curriculum vitae;
  • the university degree and transcripts, or proof of enrollment in an African university;
  • a motivation letter;
  • any specific document required by the scholarship in question, as well as proof of the required technical equipment.

Selection Process

A specialized committee of the Women for Africa Foundation evaluates all applications on the basis of the documents received. The final decision is published at the end of July on the official website; only selected candidates are contacted personally and then have seven business days to accept the scholarship, failing which it is reassigned to the next candidate.

At the end of the training, recipients undertake to submit a brief summary of their experience and to respond to an evaluation survey aimed at improving the program. They also join the Learn Africa alumnae network, which gives access to follow-up, exchange, and support activities (mentoring, coaching, peer support).
