The Mauritian Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Research has released the new 2026 edition of the Mauritius–Africa Scholarship Scheme (MASS). This long-running program funds full-time higher education studies at public universities in Mauritius and is reserved for residents of African Union member states or African Commonwealth countries.

Mauritius is one of Africa’s most dynamic economies, with a gross national income per capita of USD 12,850 in 2024 and an unemployment rate of 5.6% in the third quarter of 2025. Its higher education system is modeled on the British system: courses at public universities are taught in English, although French and Creole are widely used in everyday life.

  • Eligible study levels: Diploma, Bachelor’s degree, MPhil (Master’s), combined MPhil/PhD program, and PhD.
