The application campaign for the MISTRAL scholarship program in France for the academic year 2024/2025 is now open. This program is aimed at exceptionally talented international students enrolled in a higher education institution abroad and wishing to pursue a master’s degree at the University of Avignon. The scholarship offers an annual allowance of 6,000 euros as well as waiver of registration fees. The deadline to submit applications online is March 25, 2023.

Avignon University of is a French multidisciplinary public university located in Avignon in Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, Vaucluse. Established in 1303, it is one of the oldest French universities. Its fields of study include humanities and social sciences, arts, literature and languages, law, economics and management, as well as science, technology, and health.

Benefits of the MISTRAL Scholarships

Avignon University will fund a maximum of 7 MISTRAL scholarships for both levels of Master’s M1 and M2 during the academic year 2024/2025, totaling 42,000 euros (6,000 euros each).

MISTRAL scholarship holders are exempted from national registration fees and differentiated registration fees applicable to students from countries outside the European Economic Area for registration in a Master’s program at Avignon University.

Eligibility Criteria

Avignon University conditions the award of MISTRAL scholarships to students whose applications meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Be enrolled in a higher education institution abroad at the time of application.
  • Have an excellent academic record and meet the academic and language criteria set by the educational team of the relevant course at Avignon University.
  • Not have interrupted their studies for more than one year.
  • Apply for enrollment in Master 1 or 2 at Avignon University for the academic year 2024-2025.
  • Not already reside in France.
  • Be under 28 years of age by December 31, 2024.
  • Have never applied for MISTRAL excellence scholarships (except for renewal).
  • Not be benefiting from another scholarship for the requested program of study. In case of obtaining a scholarship other than the MISTRAL scholarship, the candidate must inform Avignon University promptly and renounce the MISTRAL scholarship.

MISTRAL Scholarship Application Procedure

Candidates from CEF procedure countries (see below) must first create an electronic CEF file and then submit an application for MISTRAL scholarships.

To create this electronic file, the candidate must inquire at the Campus France office in their home country: They must indicate Avignon University’s Master’s program as their 1st choice for which they are applying for a MISTRAL scholarship.

List of CEF procedure countries : Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Benin, Brazil, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Chile, China, Colombia, Comoros, Republic of the Congo, South Korea, Ivory Coast, Djibouti, Egypt, United States, Gabon, Guinea, Haiti, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Madagascar, Mali, Morocco, Mauritius, Mauritania, Mexico, Niger, Nigeria, Peru, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Russia, Senegal, Singapore, Taiwan, Chad, Togo, Tunisia, Turkey, and Vietnam.

Candidates from other countries should directly submit their application to Avignon University.

Application File Composition

The form as well as the CV and the cover letter must be written in French. Other documents must be in French or alternatively in English. The absence of a single constituent piece of the file will result in its rejection:

  1. A certificate of current enrollment in a higher education institution abroad at the time of application (or for the previous academic year for candidates who have interrupted their studies for less than a year);
  2. Copies of all diplomas obtained since the end of secondary education;
  3. Copies of transcripts obtained during higher education studies accompanied by a description of the grading system used in the country of origin;
  4. Evidence of the candidate’s French language proficiency (minimum B2 level);
  5. A letter of recommendation from a teacher at the candidate’s home university;
  6. A motivation letter from the candidate in French, to join the chosen Master’s program at Avignon University, also specifying their professional project;
  7. An updated curriculum vitae in French;
  8. The completed, dated, and signed MISTRAL scholarship application form;
  9. The CEF identifier for students from countries covered by the Campus France procedure.

Applications are made online and the required documents must be in digital format in a single PDF.

The deadline for receiving MISTRAL scholarship applications is March 25, 2024. Applications received after the deadline, incomplete, sent in a different form or by a different means than those indicated above are inadmissible and will not be processed.
