MMEG Scholarships for Women in Canada, USA and France

The Margaret McNamara Education Grants (MMEG) scholarship program is now accepting applications for the academic year 2024-2025. This program targets women from developing and middle-income countries and provides funding for studies at all academic levels in Canada, the United States, or France. The application deadline is January 15, 2024.

MMEG is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of women from developing countries by supporting their higher education. Since its establishment in 1981, MMEG has supported over 531 women from more than 79 countries.

Study Levels: Bachelor, Master, Doctorate, Postdoc.

Funding: Depends on the country of study.

Target Group: Women from developing countries.

Value of the MMEG Scholarship

The scholarship amount varies based on the country of study:

  • Up to $15,000 USD for programs in the United States and Canada.
  • Up to $7,000 USD for programs in South Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean, and Trinity Washington University.
  • Up to $5,000 USD for programs in France.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants for the MMEG scholarship for women must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  1. Be a woman.
  2. Be at least 25 years old at the application deadline.
  3. Be a national of a developing country listed on the MMEG eligibility country list.
  4. Be studying in Canada, the United States, or France.
  5. Be enrolled (not just accepted) in an accredited, in-person academic institution at the time of application submission.
  6. Intend to enroll for at least one full academic semester (a period of six months) after the MMEG scholarship is awarded.
  7. Plan to complete their studies no later than three years after receiving the MMEG scholarship.
  8. Not have any family relationship with staff members of the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the Inter-American Development Bank, spouse, retiree, or board member of MMEG.

How to Apply for the MMEG Scholarship

To apply for MMEG scholarships, complete the relevant form:

The application package includes:

  • Photo ID.
  • Most recent proof of official enrollment at the university (excluding acceptance letters).
  • Latest transcripts and/or official university reports.
  • Visa page or study permit page in the current passport (if studying outside the home country). In case of dual citizenship, the second passport page with a clear photo.
  • Two letters of recommendation.
  • Brief description of your personal background and how your studies, experiences, and future projects are related to your commitment to women and children in developing countries.
  • An estimate of your financial situation for the upcoming academic year, including living expenses, as well as planned strategies to cover your financial needs.
