Call for Application for the MOPGA Fellowship in France

The French government has launched a call for applications for the MOPGA 2024 program, offering a research stay fellowship for young researchers to contribute to strengthening scientific contributions to climate change issues. The deadline to apply is January 9, 2024.

This seventh call for projects of the Make Our Planet Great Again (MOPGA) program, funded by the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs (MEAE), in partnership with the Ministry of Higher Education and Research (MESR) and implemented by Campus France, will host a minimum of 40 young researchers wishing to conduct their research in France.

The MOPGA 2024 program for young researchers will fund research on specific themes designated for this purpose.

Who is eligible?

Foreign researchers with a PhD degree obtained within the last five years (having defended their thesis between January 2019 and January 2024 inclusive) are eligible for MOPGA 2024. All nationalities are eligible, except for French nationality. Applicants must not have resided in France for more than 90 days between October 9, 2023, and January 9, 2024.

Number and duration of the fellowship

A minimum of 40 MOPGA fellowships will be awarded to successful young researchers over a 12-month period starting from September 2024.

  • Climate change and sustainability sciences.
  • Energetic transition.
  • Societal challenges of environmental issues.
  • Human, animal, and environmental health as defined in the “One Health” approach.

Selection procedure

The selection procedure will be carried out in two phases. In the first phase, scientific experts in the fields covered by the call for applications will evaluate the received applications. In the second phase, an international selection committee will select candidates for the MOPGA 2024 program.

  1. CV with a list of publications (maximum 4 pages);
  2. Doctoral degree certificate (or diploma attestation);
  3. CV of the French research director for the research stay (maximum 2 pages);
  4. Letter of support from the French hosting laboratory;
  5. Recommendation letters (maximum 3);
  6. Copy of the passport or national identity document;
  7. A description of your research project in the following format:
    1. Project title
    2. Keywords (6)
    3. Summary of the research project (maximum 2,000 characters)
    4. Background and motivation (maximum 2,000 characters)
    5. Scientific objectives (maximum 2,000 characters)
    6. Methodology and schedule (maximum 4,500 characters)
    7. Project position in relation to the MOPGA scientific domain (maximum 2,000 characters)
    8. Collaborations and/or expected research project outcomes with the candidate’s country of residence (maximum 2,000 characters)

  • October 9, 2023: Opening of the application.
  • January 9, 2024 : Closing of the application.
  • End of June 2024: Notification of results.
  • Between September 2024 and December 2024 at the latest: Arrival of the laureates in France and start of their research stay in French institutions.
