Ajinomoto Foundation Scholarships for International Students in Japan

The Ajinomoto Foundation has officially opened its prestigious scholarship program for the 2024 academic year, aimed at supporting international students who are eager to pursue postgraduate studies (Masters or PhD) in Japan. Targeted specifically at the fields of food, nutrition, and health, these scholarships are designed to promote and facilitate access to quality education in key sectors that impact global well-being and public health.

The Foundation is offering ten (10) exceptional scholarships, each providing a monthly stipend of USD 978 to assist students with their tuition and living expenses throughout their academic journey in Japan. Interested candidates must apply by the deadline of May 20, 2024.

Ajinomoto Scholarship Amount

Each Ajinomoto Foundation Scholarship is valued at 150,000 yen per month and is available for a maximum duration of two years.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following criteria and submit their applications in the prescribed format through the university where they are (or will be) enrolled:

  • Must be an international student, primarily from Asia, Africa, or South America, and must have traveled to Japan with the intention to undertake extensive studies and research in the specific field of “food, nutrition, and health”.
  • Must be currently enrolled or about to enroll in a master’s or doctoral program at a higher education institution in Japan.
  • Must demonstrate academic excellence and outstanding moral qualities, have a genuine motivation for learning, and a proven need for financial support.
  • Must be under 30 years old as of April 1, 2024.
  • Must be able to provide a letter of recommendation from the dean of the graduate school or an academic supervisor (professor or lecturer).

Application Procedure

Interested applicants are required to submit their application packets to the president of the Ajinomoto Association, exclusively via the Japanese higher education institution where they are registered.

Ajinomoto Scholarships will be awarded to students who have already been accepted into a Japanese university to pursue postgraduate studies. It is crucial that applicants are admitted into a master’s or doctoral program at the time of applying for this scholarship.
