The FMJH (Jacques Hadamard Mathematics Foundation) is launching a scholarship program named “Women in Mathematics” aimed at encouraging young women to study mathematics. The scholarships offered are L3+M1+M2 scholarships. This means that once awarded in L3 (licence 3), they will be automatically renewed for M1 and then M2. The selected students can pursue their L3 and Master’s at Université Paris-Saclay or Institut Polytechnique de Paris. The deadline to submit an application is April 22, 2024.

Amount of the Women in Mathematics Scholarships

The “Women in Mathematics” Scholarships program offers a grant worth 11,000€ net per year. This includes an allowance to cover university registration fees (about 500€ for one year) and another, lump sum, of up to 2000€ per year for foreign students covering travel and visa expenses.

Each winner will also be offered mentorship during their studies by a mathematician who will play a mentoring role.


The scholarships cover the duration of the L3, M1, and M2 courses. Once awarded in L3, the scholarship is automatically renewed for M1 and M2.


Any student wishing to enroll in L3 at Université Paris-Saclay or Institut Polytechnique de Paris is eligible. Proficiency in French or English is required, depending on the L3 program concerned.

Selection of candidates for the Women in Mathematics Scholarships is based on academic criteria evidenced by transcripts and letters of recommendation. Letters of recommendation are automatically requested from the referees indicated by the candidates upon validation of their application.

Your application must include the following elements:

  • Transcripts from each institution previously attended during the first years of License or equivalent.
  • An academic CV.
  • The names and addresses of two referees.
  • A study project (this document aims to explain who you are and what you expect from your higher education).

For this first call, 10 Women in Mathematics Scholarships are available. The deadline to submit an application is April 22, 2024, at 11:59 pm. Recommendation letters from referees must reach FMJH by April 28, 2024, at the latest. The results will be announced before May 31.
