  • 500 Masters and PhD Fully Funded Scholarships in China

    The Alliance of International Scientific Organizations (ANSO), the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), The University of Sciences and Technolgies of China (USTC), and the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS/UNESCO) have just launched a call for applications for their “ANSO Scholarship for Young Talents” program. Up to 500 students/researchers from developing countries will be sponsored to study in China at master’s or PhD level.

    The ANSO Scholarship for Young Talents was formally launched in 2019 with the goal of training and cultivating young scientists from all over the world. The ANSO Scholarship supports 200 Master’s students and 300 PhD students every year to pursue their education at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) or institutes of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in China.

    The Alliance of International Science Organizations (ANSO) is a non-profit, non-governmental international organization founded in 2018. Founding members include 37 scientific institutions, universities, and international organizations worldwide. ANSO aims to improve regional and global capacity in science and technology, human livelihoods and wellbeing, and to promote broader S&T cooperation and communication.

    Eligibility Criteria

    To be eligible for the ANSO Young Talents Scholarship, applicants must:

    • NOT hold Chinese citizenship.
    • Be nationals of one of the 138 eligible Southern Developing Countries (List of Southern Developing Countries).
    • Hold a bachelor’s degree for the master’s program or a master’s degree for the PhD program.
    • Fluency in English or Chinese (depending on the study program language).
    • For master’s candidates: be born after January 1, 1993 (included).
    • For PhD candidates: be born after January 1, 1988 (inclusive).
    • Meet the admission criteria for international students of USTC (University of Science and Technology of China) / UCAS (University of Chinese Academy of Sciences).
    • NOT be currently pursuing a master or PhD at a university/institution in China.

    You are NOT allowed to apply for both USTC and UCAS simultaneously, or you will be disqualified.

    For the PhD program, it is not mandatory to seek for a supervisor before applying.

    Scholarship amount

    Successful applicants for the ANSO Young Talents Scholarship will be granted:

    • Tuition waiver.
    • A monthly stipend of : $430 for the master’s for a maximum of 36 months and $860 or $1000 for the PhD for a maximum of 48 months.
    • Health insurance.
    • Application fee waiver.
    • International travel allowance from awardee’s home country to China (one trip per awarded candidate)
    • One-time visa/residence permit allowance
    • Centralized training in Chinese language and culture.

    Available degrees

    USTC and UCAS offer more than 100 master’s programs and 90 PhD programs in different schools and research institutes. Most of them are taught in Chinese, while the rest are taught in English.

    Application procedure for the ANSO scholarship

    Whether you are a Masters or PhD candidate, to apply for the ANSO Young Talents Scholarship, create an account and submit your application on the USTC or UCAS admission portal.

    Those who are planning to apply for USTC, according to their website, if you are using a Gmail account for registration, you may not be able to receive the validation email sent by their system. Please use another email address for registration.

    According to the USTC, users of Google’s Gmail service may not receive the verification email.

    During your application, you will be asked to upload the documents below. A notarized Chinese or English translation must be attached if the documents submitted are not in Chinese or English.

    • Photocopy of passport (ordinary passport with validity of at least one year).
    • Curriculum vitae
    • Research proposal.
    • Two letters of recommendation from full professors or associate professors (with phone number and email address).
    • Physical examination form..
    • Copy of HSK (Chinese proficiency) or IELTS or TOEFL (English proficiency) certificate.
    • Copy of diploma certificate and transcripts for bachelor’s and master’s degree (if applicable) notarized.

    The ANSO Scholarship 2023 is open for applications until  February 15, 2023 (Beijing time).

    3. Canadian Francophonie Scholarship Program CANCELED

    The Canadian Francophonie Scholarship Program (CFSP) is entirely funded by the Government of Canad. The program is a scholarship program designed to build institutional capacities by training employed nationals from developing countries of La Francophonie.

    4. Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships OPEN

    6. Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships (Vanier CGS)   OPEN

    The Government of Canada launched the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships (Vanier CGS) program to strengthen Canada’s ability to attract and retain world-class doctoral students and establish Canada as a global center of excellence in research and higher learning.

    Up to 166 scholarships are awarded annually, valued at $50,000 per year each.

    Chinese Government Scholarship programs sponsor international students, teachers, and scholars to undertake degree studies (bachelor, master, and PhD) and Chinese language study or academic research in institutions of higher education in China.

    8. British Chevening Scholarships  OPEN

    13. Government of Flanders Master Mind Scholarships  T.B.A

    The Flemish Ministry of Education and Training awards scholarships for master’s programs in Flanders and Brussels to outstanding students from around the world.

    A Master Mind Scholarship includes a grant of €8 200 plus a tuition fee waiver per academic year.  The grant covers accommodation costs, insurances and a significant amount of your living expenses.

    Expenses for Schwarzman scholars are  fully covered by the program: tuition, fees, room and board, travel to and from Beijing at the beginning and end of the academic year, in-country study tours, required course books and supplies, a Lenovo laptop, health insurance, and a personal stipend.

    There is no fee associated with applying to the program.

    Interview expenses, such as economy class air or train travel, group meals, and one night in a hotel if needed, are arranged and covered by the program.

    The Tsinghua University will provide the necessary paperwork for requesting a visa. This process begins in the spring after a Schwarzman Scholar is accepted.

    Eligibility

    In addition to demonstrating extraordinary leadership skills, the ability to anticipate and act on trends and changes in their context, strong intellectual capacity, and exemplary character, candidates for the Schwarzman scholarships must meet the following criteria:

    • Must have an undergraduate degree.
    • Be 18-28 years of age as of August 1, 2023.
    • Be proficient in the English language.
    • Must have a degree in Chinese, Asian Studies, Public Policy, Economics, Business, International Relations or any related field. Those who have a degree in a different field, must make a compelling argument in their statement of purpose how the Schwarzman scholarships program will advance their professional, academic, and leadership goals.

    How to apply for the Schwarzman Scholarships?

    Application for the Schwarzman scholarships must be completed online and submitted electronically.

    The application form must be completed in English.

    You do not have to complete the online application in one sitting; you may access, save, and continue work on your application as frequently as needed before submitting the application.

    The Global Sustainable Electricity Partnership (GSEP) has announced the opening of applications for its scholarship program “Education for Sustainable Energy Development (ESED)” for the academic year 2023-2024. The scholarship is valid at any university: The ESED program gives you the freedom to study at any country of your choice.

    GSEP will award a portion of its scholarships to students pursuing master’s degrees at universities based in developing countries. This means if you are already a master student and are currently studying in your home country, then you can participate.

    The Global Sustainable Electricity Partnership is an alliance led by CEOs of the world’s leading electricity companies. Its members provide electricity to a significant portion of the world’s population: 1.2 billion people consume electricity supplied by its members, 1/3 of all electricity consumed in the world is generated and transmitted by its members, $3.6 billion is invested in R&D each year.

    Last year, 60% of accepted applicants were from Africa: (1) Nigeria, (1) Egypt, (1) Ghana, (1) Eritrea, (2) Morocco. 30% were from Asia (India, Pakistan, and Indonesia).

    Amount of the ESED scholarships

    The Education for Sustainable Energy Development program offers scholarships to a dozen students each year worth up to $10,000 per year of study for up to two years.

    Eligibility

    To be eligible for the ESED scholarships, potential applicants must:

    • Be a citizen of a developing country.
    • (Will or) Undertake master’s level studies in carbon-free energy, smart grids, electric transmission, energy storage, advanced electric technologies, public policy, economics, law, political science or other relevant fields.
    • Pursue full-time study for at least one full academic year (two or three semesters), beginning in fall 2022. Students in their second year of a two-year program may apply.
    • Be an outstanding student: graduate with excellent grades, be in the top 20% of your class, be committed to sustainable energy development, have a history of community involvement, commit to advancing your knowledge and understanding.

    The ESED scholarships application can take up to a few hours to complete if you have all the correct information on hand. All information entered in the form will be automatically saved. You can return and complete your form later.

    4. Validate and submit your request.

    You must provide an electronic copy of all documents listed below. If the language of your original documents is not English, a certified translation is required.

    • Passport or birth certificate.
    • Curriculum vitae.
    • A copy of your university transcript(s).
    • Letter of admission to the university program of your choice. If this application is for the second year of a two-year program, please include proof of enrollment.
    • An outline of the curriculum or courses you will be taking for your master’s program. You may also share the URL of a webpage detailing the program of your choice.
    • Two letters of recommendation. One of these must be from an academic referee.

  • Aga Khan Foundation Scholarships for International Students

    The Aga Khan Foundation, an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), provides a limited number of scholarships each year for postgraduate studies to outstanding students from selected developing countries. The Foundation gives priority to requests for Master’s level courses but is willing to consider applications for PhD programs.

    The agencies of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) are private, international, non-denominational development organizations. They work to improve the welfare and prospects of people in the developing world, particularly in Asia and Africa. The AKDN works in over 30 countries around the world. It employs approximately 96,000 people, the majority of whom are based in developing countries. The AKDN’s annual budget for non-profit development activities is approximately US$ 1billion.

    Amount of the Aga Khan Foundation Scholarships

    The Foundation assists students with tuition fees and living expenses. The cost of travel is not included in AKF scholarships. Funding for PhD programs is only provided for the first two years of study.

    Half of the scholarship amount is as a loan, which must be reimbursed with an annual service charge of 5%. A guarantor is required to co-sign the loan agreement. The payback period is five years, starting six months after the study period.

    Eligibility for Aga Khan Scholarships

    The Foundation accepts applications from nationals of the following countries: Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Syria, Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Madagascar, and Mozambique.

    Furthermore, the candidate must meet the following requirements:

    • Excellent academic records.
    • Real and genuine financial need.
    • Planning to apply, or already admitted, to a highly reputable university or program.
    • Preferred, under 30 years of age.

    Eligible study Countries

    The Foundation accepts applications from students who plan to attend any university in any country in the world except: United Kingdom, Germany, Sweden, Austria, Denmark, Netherlands, Italy, Norway, and Ireland. This exception is applicable only to the 2022-2023 call.

    Application Procedures

    The application procedures of Aga Khan Foundation’s Scholarship Program are decentralized.  Students may obtain application forms as of 1st  January from AKF offices or Aga Khan Education Services / Boards in their countries of current residence.  Completed applications should be returned to the agency from which the form was obtained. They should not be sent to Geneva.

    Before you apply for this scholarship, you should have an offer to study at a university of your choice.
